I'm not sure you can tell what time it is very easily by this clock but I thought it was a cool idea. Sarah gets really annoyed with me when I get back from a bike ride and tell her that I have broken yet another component on my mountain bike. This summer I was riding to a trail head, on paved roads mind you, when one of my rear cogs broke and completely fell off of the rear cassette. I had to have the entire rear cassette replaced leaving me with 7 cogs to play with. I made this clock for Sarah for her birthday using the largest cog and a medium one. I gave it to her unfinished and because of the bitter cold this winter and the windows, bikes, and storage stuff congesting my workspace in the garage, I just couldn't finish it until now. I finally put the finishing touches on it last night and re-gave it to her this morning. The construction is a little rough. I did most of it with the plunge router. This was my first project using the router. Kind of a fun tool if it doesn't run away from you. I wanted to incorporate pieces of bike chain into the base but I couldn't figure out how to cut a grove around the perimeter without buying a custom bit for the router. Not too shabby though.
Happy Late Birthday Sarah!
Wait 'til you see what I make with the next broken piece!
